The World Traveller specializes in unique, one of a kind group tours to off-the-beaten track destinations around the world.  Although we concentrate primarily our group business, we also handle arrangements for independent travelers to the areas we operate to.  Currently, we operate two to three group tours a year which average approximately 30 days.  We are not volume operators and never have more than 19 group participants per departure.  Our itineraries are extremely well-planned and particularly detailed oriented.  All our tours are currently escorted by Kathryn Kern, owner/operator of The World Traveller.

Kathryn started out in the travel business in 1994.  She worked for over four years for an Egyptian ground operator as their US Sales and Marketing representative.  Her position at that time was General Manager and she also participated as a shareholder in the US based entity.  Kathryn’s targeted market was the travel trade which consisted of tour operators and travel agents. She also organized group departures for special interest groups and independent travelers.  Egypt proved to be a challenging destination - but what a absolutely amazing one!  As it inevitably happened during these four years, Kathryn got a bee in her bonnet just thinking about what it would be like to travel to even more distant lands.

The World Traveller

Specializing in escorted group tours and independent  travel programs to

Northern Africa, the Middle East, Trans-Caucasus, Central and Southeast Asia.

In 1998 came a remarkable opportunity for Kathryn to open her own tour company and diversify her markets.  One of her clients, veteran tour operator Charles Ross of  The International Gallery, made the  decision to retire and close his extremely successful 12-year old family run operation.  Known as an innovator in the travel industry worldwide, Charles has since become a mentor to many of us he met during his travels worldwide and in fact, changed our lives.  As a result of this relationship, The World Traveller continues to operate the International Gallery’s unique, in-depth one-of-a-kind itineraries.  We also spend quite a bit of time researching, creating new itineraries and more importantly making reconnaissance visits to destinations we operate to.  We cater to a small market of well traveled clientele and have quite a bit of repeat business.  It has been nine years now and The World Traveller has been able to successfully make the transition into the competitive, but highly rewarding tour operation business.  Why have we been successful?  Certainly our clients, definitely the ultimate world travelers, and everyone we meet during our adventures to remote, far way places, truly make it worth all the effort it takes to make an exceptional vacation extraordinary.  Thanks guys!

When Kathryn is away on tour and reconnaissance trips, her sister Liz, who is also a partner in The World Traveller, handles the many important day-to-day aspects of the business.  Needless to say, what a great relief that is!

NOTE:  Our programs are meant as a guide to what we hope and plan to do.  However, many things can cause us to alter the program, not only prior to the trip, but even during it.  Sometimes an unexpected opportunity will arise.  Sometimes, the group will be especially interested in a particular site or program, and we will spend more time there than we had planned.  Thus, something else may not be able to be done.  Sometimes, even things that we have gone to great lengths to arrange, perhaps a visit to a particular village or home, may not be possible because something has befallen the family and our visit would be inappropriate.  Surely between the time of printing our programs and our actual journeys, there will be changes as we find ways to make our trips even more special.  Our trips are always very well “organized” and this allows us to make change, but they are never regimented.  We do not make our itineraries with a “cookie-cutter”.

If you are the kind of person who uses a program outline as a “checklist”, then the spontaneous nature of our journeys may not appeal to you.  Additionally, these itineraries are prepared far in advance based on airlines schedules then in effect or predicted to be in effect at the time of the trip, and to allow us to be a certain location on a particular day.  If there are later airline schedule changes, program changes are inevitable to allow us to do what we want to do.  Flexibility is a requirement for anyone traveling with us who wants to enjoy our very personal kind of travel adventure, to remote and less well traveled destinations.
